Welcome to UB Right Now, a place to keep updated on what we're doing and where we're doing it.

The last few months have taken UB all over the place, from London to Amsterdam and from Manchester the Basque Country.  Here's a bit of what when on as the old year ended and the new year began. 

Storytelling Ensemble, The Roundhouse
During the Autumn Leo worked with the newly form storytelling-ensemble at the Roundhouse. On the weekend of 30th November they performed a collection of stories taking an up-close look at death and the unknown.
Winnie Love one of the young artists involved had this to say about here experience:

"Through the director Leo Kay, the producer Anna Smith and the rest of my course members I learnt the importance of being open and aware of my body, mind and soul and how I want my art to connect to people from all walks of life and to really mean something to those who engage with it."

 

The Spinning Wheel Keeps Turning - Amsterdam residency
In December Leo headed out to Amsterdam's MC Theatre to meet hip hop theatre artist Baba Israel and his musical collaborator Yako 440.  During their week-long residency, the trio developed material for their new piece The Spinning Wheel Keeps Turning, an exploration of the life of Baba's father, the renowned musician, comedian and activist Steve Ben Israel.

Prelude to a Number, Manchester
As soon as he got back form Amsterdam Leo was off to Manchester for one week to start work on a new spoken word and music performance from Geddes Loom, 'Prelude to a Number'.  He continues to work on the piece throughout January.  What this space for news about upcoming performances in February.

Change My Mind - Residency at Baratza (Vitoria - Basque Country)
The UB team + artists Ria Hartley and Hannah Wheelan spent the run up to Christmas at Baratza, an incredible new performance space in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of the Basque Country. They spent their days reading and discussing in an attempt to tame the beast that is our new project, 'Change My Mind'.
