UB Right Now: a place to keep updated on what we're doing and where we're doing it.

We’ve had an exciting start to the new year, having spent most of the last month on the road with Geddes Loom developing their new show, whilst plotting for the UB year ahead. With collaborations with John Berkavitch and Ria Hartley coming up, it looks like an exciting few months ahead.

Artists announcement for Change My Mind
Change My Mind kicks off in March. UB are super excited to be working with an incredibly unique group of artists, coming from the worlds of spoken word, dance, theatre, fine art and live art. We look forward to starting the project and hope each artist will bring something completely different to the table. Check them out...

Prelude To A Number by Geddes Loom
Leo is devising and directing a new show with Manchester-based music and performance collective, Geddes Loom. Fusing spoken word, music and video mapping, the group explore the strange and beautiful qualities of the ancient number Phi - the Golden Ratio.  After an intensive, six-week development process, Prelude To A Number premiered at Theatre in the Mill in Bradford on 7th February, before heading for performances at The Arc in Stockton and The Lowry in Salford.  Find out more here.

Introducing the Board
This month UB are proud to announce our brand new board. Joining the Unfinished Business team will be Phil Mackenzie, Jan Ryan, Hen Norton, Hardish Virk, Nicola Turner and Ansuman Biswas. In true UB style, we'll all be getting together next week for a chaotic cook-up at our Stoke Newington studio to welcome them into the fold. You can find out more about each board member here.

SHAME by John Berkavitch
Working alongside Hip Hop artist Jonzi D and poet Lemn Sissay, Leo will be co-directing SHAME; the new production from spoken word artist John Berkavitch; exploring how we reconcile ourselves with this most crippling of human emotions. In development throughout February, the show will tour widely across UK throughout the Spring.  Check out the full schedule here.

Matilda and Me by Ria Hartley
Performance artist Ria Hartley's new production, Matilda and Me, is a 'biomythical' retelling of the life of her grandmother Matilda, who migrated from Jamaica to Britain in 1962. Ria spent a year in Jamaica, on the YEMOYA international artist's residency, developing the show and has teamed up with Leo to continue its development - in form and content - with Leo as director. With an emphasis on biographical storytelling [and innovative performance practice], it's a great chance for Leo to lend his experience and further explore the medium. Matilda and Me will be touring the UK this spring.
