Men Baking Bread

Present

A day long baking, ritual and dialogue process for self defining men

'Patriarchy is the single most life-threatening social disease assaulting the male body and spirit in our nation. Yet most men do not use the word “patriarchy” in everyday life. Most men never think about patriarchy—what it means, how it is created and sustained.’  (bell hooks, Understanding Patriarchy)

Men Baking Bread invites men to come together and consider their relationship to, benefit from, complicity with, oppression by and desire to dismantle the 'white supremacist patriarchal capitalist system' (bell hooks), and to bake bread.

As with the umbrella practice The Bakery Of Slow Ideas, this project was born out of a a need for space to engage in dialogue and digest important issues collectively.

The project is in it's early spaces of development & will include both a publication (workbook) and a series of baking days. The publication will feature transcripts taken from conversations with several feminist artists - activists - pedagogs. Chapters in the publication will act as stimulus for the dialogues that occur throughout the day's process.
