The Remember Me Tea Dance

Past

2010

An intergenerational performance with local residents in Reading, combining intimate storytelling with a lively tea dance.

Unfinished Business collaborated with Age UK, Berkshire and South Street Arts Centre to recruit a group of under-18 and over 65-year olds to create a unique show incorporating storytelling, couples-dancing and interactive performance.

Over two months, the group journeyed together through a workshop process; taking dance classes with expert teacher Tom Nickson and developing performance and storytelling techniques with UB’s Leo Kay. Their stories celebrated their unique personal histories, reflecting on memories, dreams and life experiences.

During the final performance, the audience were invited to share in conversation, learn to dance and indulge in tea and cakes with the performers.

The project was supported by Be Creative Be Well from Arts Council England.

"You brought back memories of growing up in a small village during the war. Our dancing started with a Victor Sylvester book and chalk footmarks on the floor! What a beautiful show and experience I had tonight."
